Hi everyone, I finally finished Hapgood's book above on some basic questions of Earth Science, that has been reprinted from the '60s.
Now some say that his theories of Earth's crust displacement were not supported by Einstein, but in fact he wanted more research in the problem. This research is about the geology of our planet, so it fits this board for discussion, don't worry, it gets more interesting!
The basic problem is the fact that Earth spins at 700 mph, not as a sphere but with an equitorial bulge and the weight of ice at the poles can cause the crust to shift. The beginings of the last three displacements were about 40,000 years in length, with the last movement began 26,000 and 17,000 years ago.
(Note that the first date is close to the estimated age of the Ravne complex?)
Hapgood expects that a number of factors favor a movement somewhat sooner than the time indicated by the average of the last three displacements. The Antatrctic ice cap is larger than the last North American icecap - some of the sea ice is melting but snowfall overall and therefore weight, is still increasing? There may be few indications that pressure of the Antartic cap (reinforced by Greenland cap) has already disturbed the stability of the earth's crust, but we do see more seismic and volcanic movements today. What happens if his guesses turn out to be correct?
"The next North Pole will be in the vacinity of Lake Baikal, in Siberia. North America, moving southward into the tropics, will subside some hundreds of feet relative to sea level, and the ocean will occupy the river valleys and divide the continent into several land areas. India will move northwards, out of the tropics and since there will be no land to the south to provide protection we expect the exstinction of many species of animals and plants. The gradual climatic changes due to changing latitude will be accompanied by numerous sudden, violent and destructive climate changes due to volcanism." quote.
So now we know what the 'Adam and Eve' story was all about in another of my posts.
Take care everyone, and will add some images to see the geological changes from the past.
